Bridging the Tamar Visitor and Learning Centre

The Bridging the Tamar Visitor and Learning Centre is situated at the iconic Tamar Bridge and offers school workshops to inspire students in STEAM. Students enjoy learning outside the classroom by having a trip onto the bridge and learning about Brunel’s Royal Albert Bridge and the modern-day Tamar Bridge.

They offer a variety of curriculum-linked workshops from Early Years to Key Stage 4 that are adaptable to suit different learning requirements and time constraints and they all include a trip out onto the Tamar Bridge to marvel at the views of the river and Brunel’s Royal Albert Bridge.

Educational Workshops

Educational Workshops

There are a variety of workshops available with Bridging the Tamar Visitor and Learning Centre. Choose from topics such as:

  • Bridges (EYFS-KS4): An interactive workshop with experiments and hands-on bridge-building activities
  • Meeting Brunel (KS1-2): – Meet Mr Brunel, designer of the incredible Royal Albert Bridge and test out your bridge-building skills.
  • Brunel and Bridges (KS1-4): Find out about the life of Brunel, his famous Royal Albert Bridge, and some of his other engineering achievements.
  • The Industrial Revolution (KS1-4): Find out about technological advances from the 1800s to the present day.
  • The River Tamar (KS1-4): Find out about the natural environment of the River Tamar, and how humans have navigated transport on it.
  • Levers and pulleys (KS2): Enjoy hands-on experiments and a look at the levers and pulleys used on the Tamar and Royal Albert Bridge.
  • Smart bridges of the future (KS3-4): Explore the skills engineers of the future will need to build bridges and what the future might look like.
  • Minibeasts and their homes (EYFS, on-site only) – Children become bug hunters as they discover minibeasts and search for their natural habitats.

50% workshop discount

If you are a school with more than 30% of your students receiving free school meals, you can enjoy 50% of any workshop booked at the Bridging the Tamar Visitor and Learning Centre.

Give your students the chance to get hands-on with bridge-building activities, learn all about the history of bridges, and even look to the future to see what new bridges might become.

Workshops all take place in the dedicated workshop space and include a trip out onto the Tamar Bridge to marvel at the views of the river and Brunel’s Royal Albert Bridge.
