A stunning and inspiring location for a cross-curricular school trip. Make the most of your day at Castle Acre Priory by visiting the on-site exhibition, recreated herb garden, and new stonework display in the Prior’s lodgings. The Priory has a huge amount to see and explore. From the extremely well preserved west front of the great 12th-century church to the remains of the cloister and monks’ living quarters, which includes a two-storey, 24-seater toilet block.

Discovery Visits at Castle Acre Priory

GCSE Tour

Students will immerse themselves in Medieval history by investigating the buildings that were built in the Norman period. They’ll learn how to identify the different areas of the priory, listen to Gregorian music in the church, unpick symbols from the West Front and try their hand at sign language in the Refectory to learn all about what Norman life was really like. You can also download our free self-led GCSE resource from our schools page, which supports the tour. Availability: April – October: Monday – Friday during term time. Sessions last for 1 hour and cost £80 per session.

You can bring your class to any of our sites entirely free of charge. We offer free entry to pre-booked schools, as well as free planning visits to help you make the most out of your day. Use our free downloadable resources to help with your planning and risk assessment.

EXPERT-LED WORKSHOPS

Award-winning and immersive Discovery Visits are available at selected sites from just £100 per session per class. Students of all ages and abilities can meet characters from the past, role-play or handle intriguing objects.
