Visit Dartmoor Prison Museum and learn about ‘life inside’ one of the world’s most famous and notorious jails!

Vividly portrayed are more than 200 years of this prison’s turbulent history; See life-size models of Napoleonic soldiers in colourful period uniforms, read about the ‘Princetown Massacre,’ and learn about the escape of the ‘Mad Axeman’ – a famous prisoner at Dartmoor who, despite the biggest manhunt ever mounted on the moor, was never recaptured.

The museum offers activities linked to the National Curriculum at Key stages 2 and 3 and school staff can visit the Museum before a planned visit if they wish to develop a worksheet for students. Free parking at the front of the museum with coach parking is available.
