The Dorman Memorial Museum was opened in 1904 by Sir Arthur Dorman to commemorate his late son, George. The museum has a variety of permanent displays covering social history, natural sciences and art & design. Visitors can explore our Four Corners gallery hosting our original ethnographic collections from Ancient Egypt and Africa, Earth in Space to come face to face with our model dinosaur Eo, discover Middlesbrough’s history in Town in Time, step back into the Edwardian era in the Nelson Gallery which is filled with taxidermied birds and eggs in their original Edwardian setting, discover the largest publically owned collection of Victorian industrial designer Christopher Dresser and be amazed by our historical and local Linthorpe Art Pottery of which Dresser was Art Superintendent. The museum also has 2 temporary exhibition spaces for community produced, in-house and touring exhibitions as well as an exciting VR ride, so there is plenty to see and do.
