Gainsborough Old Hall – English Heritage

Enjoy a visit to Gainsborough Old Hall and experience over 500 years of history. Explore the vast kitchen, where grand feasts would have been prepared and then admire the great hall with its ornate wooden ceiling, where they would have been enjoyed. Explore the rest of the Old Hall and discover how this incredible building has changed over time and been used in many different ways, ranging from a beer hall to a cinema!

Discovery Visits at Gainsborough Old Hall

Prepare for a Feast: The King is coming!

Students are invited to a banquet for Henry VIII! Through costume and role play, pupils will discover the people who lived and worked at Gainsborough Old Hall. Explore the kitchen an take part in hands-on activities to prepare a feast fit for the king. Students can take on the role of the guards to keep the king safe, as well as jesters and musicians to entertain him and experience Henry VIII’s court.

Availability: April to November, Monday, Wednesday and Friday during term time, January to March: Monday, Wednesday and Friday during term time. Sessions last 1.25 hours.

FREE SELF-LED VISITS

You can bring your class to any of our sites entirely free of charge. We offer free entry to pre-booked schools, as well as free planning visits to help you make the most out of your day. Use our free downloadable resources to help with your planning and risk assessment.

EXPERT-LED WORKSHOPS

Award-winning and immersive Discovery Visits are available at selected sites from just £100 per session per class. Students of all ages and abilities can meet characters from the past, role-play or handle intriguing objects.
