Ramsey Rural Museum is an independent museum set in a peaceful rural location on the edge of the market town of Ramsey in Cambridgeshire.
Their main focus is the working and social history of Ramsey and the surrounding area of Cambridgeshire, concentrating on the period 1800 to 2000 AD. They offer trips tailored on the individual school, whether the Victorian period, World War history. They work closely with teachers to organise a day specific to their needs.

Workshop Details
Nursery Rhyme Trail:
- Access words and QR codes to pre-recorded nursery rhymes linked to exhibits around the museum. Children follow the map and scan the code to sing along
- Aimed at accompanied 3-7 year olds
Peter Rabbit’s Adventure in the Garden:
- Read, walk and talk trail through the museum garden with objects from the story for children to find.
- Ideal for accompanied 3-7 year olds
Toys and Games from the Past:
- This display contains a range of toys played with by children from the past – clockwork toys, puppets, dolls, miniatures, board games.
- Suitable for all ages
Life in Victorian Times:
- This activity utilises the museum’s exhibition spaces – The Victorian Kitchen, Parlour, Naturalist’s Study and Schoolroom – to give children an insight into the Victorian way of life. Children will also be able to have a go at the popular Victorian pastime of Brass Rubbing and handle Victoran and replica artefacts from the period.
- Suitable for 7-11 year olds.
Life i 1940’s Fenland Britain:
- The Darlow Farm Cottage was originally situated on Holme Fen and was built in the early 1930’s. It had no running water, electricity or main drainage. Dismantled and rebuilt at the museum, it is set out in 1940’s style and offers an insight into family life on the Feb at the end of the Second World War.
- Suitable for 7-11 year olds.
