Explore Souter Lighthouse on a tour around the first ever purpose-built electric lighthouse! They have our own collection of ‘The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch’ books for little ones to stop for story time along the way too. You can also choose from a range of optional extra ‘Wildlife Reporters’ activities, to make it a full-day visit, including: Minibeast Hunting, Rock pooling (tide dependent), Bird watching
Nature arts + crafts and Orienteering. A National Trust Leader can conduct your activities, you can hire their resource packs on a self-led visit or come to site to conduct your own activities in this beautiful setting.
On site we have:
Souter Lighthouse and The Leas, The Whitburn Coastal Park Nature Reserve, The Wherry (rocky beach), An indoor classroom space in our new Whitburn Coastal Conservation Centre, Changing Places facility and a Cafe.
They also offer older students the use of their diverse site for data collection and coursework: such as Biology Fieldwork, Geography Fieldwork and Citizen Science Projects.
