Wordsworth Grasmere

Wordsworth’s poetry is synonymous with the unique landscape of the English Lake District. He celebrated our relationship with nature and the importance of taking time to appreciate the wonder and beauty of the natural world. Wordsworth Grasmere has a dedicated and award-winning education team with expertise in working with young people. Students will discover what life was like for the Wordsworth family over 200 years ago and the sensory and interactive tour offers the opportunity to learn about life in the past and relate this to their own experiences. There is a raft of different workshops to choose from including guided walks, creative writing, narrative poetry and woodland workshops.

We know that funding a school trip isn’t always easy. If you are looking for help with costs, you can apply for the Great British School Trip bursary. This can help with the cost of travel or entry tickets to any Great British School Trip partner venue.

Workshop Highlights

The Dove Cottage Experience (KS2 and KS3) : Step into Dove Cottage to discover what life was like for the Wordsworth family over 200 years ago. This sensory and interactive tour offers children the opportunity to learn about life in the past and relate this to their own experiences, find out about William, Dorothy, Mary and the Wordsworth children as well as discovering why Dove Cottage was such an important place for creativity.

William Wordsworth and his Poems (KS2 and KS3): In this workshop children will learn about the life of William Wordsworth and his inspiration for writing poetry. They will then explore one or more of his most popular poems using (depending on the poem/s): extracts from Dorothy Wordsworth’s journal, facsimile manuscripts, objects, illustrations and paintings.

Prices (per child, min booking 10 people)
Primary Full Day – £6.25 and Half Day – £4.25
Secondary Full Day – £7.25 and Half Day – £5.25

Special Offer:

A full free day of outreach for every full day onsite booking with a member of our Education Team for schools that are in Cumbria or within a 1hr drive from Wordsworth Grasmere.
